Looking for a Good Counselor in Las Cruces, NM?

Finding a good counselor can be a bit tricky. Most people looking for a therapist have never been in therapy before. They aren’t sure how the process works, what questions to ask, what not to ask, or even what to expect from the first session.

Here are a few tips to help ease the process of finding a good counselor in Las Cruces:

1. Remember- this is about finding the right person for you! Finding a counselor is a personal process. Not everybody is a good fit for everybody. Read up on the potential counselor, chat with them on the phone and trust your gut! If someone rubs you the wrong way on the phone- they are probably going to irritate you in person too!

2. It is ok to ask questions! I find people are sometimes scared to ask questions about how this process works, how much it costs, etc. You are trying to determine if this is a good fit- ask away!

3. Cost is a factor- but it doesn’t always tell you much. Whether counseling is $20 an hour from a student at a university, or $150 from a professional in private practice- if it isn’t a good fit for you- it is too much! If you have a really tight budget- you have to do what you can do to find the best person. But don’t sacrfice a good fit to save a few bucks.

4. Think about what you are really looking to get out of the process. Be clear with your expectations and talk it out with potential counselors. Clarifying your goals will make sure you and your counselor are on the same page- and will also help you clarify for yourself what you are really looking for.

These are just a few quick guidelines when looking for a fabulous therapist in Las Cruces. Do you have suggestions, questions or comments- post them in the comments below.
